FOTD: Drug Store Edition!

Hi Loves!!!! First things first….I’ve missed you! I took a week off from work (and blogging lol ) to relax/celebrate my 25th Birthday (#RaiDay was everything!). Of course I did some makeup shopping for my birthday (Thanks Ma, Jas, Antonae and Lamont!) so expect a birthday haul of all the goodies I got later this week, just waiting for a few online purchases to arrive. I also got some umbrella lights (Thank you baby!) so I’m excited to play around with those to improve my pictures! OK now that all of that is out the way, lets get into this FOTD were I used ALL drug store products!

As always the first thing I did was my eyebrows. I used the NYX Micro Brow Pencil for the first time and I loved it! I know in my area (Detroit, MI) they sale NYX products at Ulta, Target, CVS, and also at local beauty supply stores. Next I did foundation and used the Maybelline Fit Me Matte & Poreless….hands down my FAVORITE drug store foundation! If you would like a review on this just let me know! For me this foundation applies best with a round top foundation brush. I like the Real Techniques expect face brush in particular. I do not prime my face with this foundation because I don’t get super oily just slightly dewy, which I like in the summer months.

All About Eyeliner!!

Hi Loves! Today we are going to talk about eyeliner!! This was a very hard topic to cover without doing a video so I hope the pictorials do this topic justice. I will cover gel, liquid, and pencil liner, my favorite eyeliners and also the technique I use to apply. PSA: excuse my brows in these pictures lol I did not fill them in so they are looking a little ratchet. My apologies in advance.

The liner I reach for the most is the Maybelline New York Eyestudio gel liner in Blackest Black. I LOVE this liner because its super black and the finish is matte! For this to be a drug store product, the quality is amazing! Another gel liner that I hear a lot of good things about is Inglot’s gel liner in #77. This is slightly more than the Maybelline but I hear it’s great. To apply the gel liner I switch between this BH Cosmetics eyeliner brush I got in a set and the Real Techniques eyeliner brush. They both work really well and I feel I have a lot of control when applying liner with them. For liquid liner I like the WetnWild H2O Proof liquid eyeliner. This liner will not go anywhere once you apply it! I also like that the brush on the applicator is short, which makes it easier to control. As far as liquid liner, the drug store has some of the best! NYC, e.l.f., Milani…all these brands have great, inexpensive liquid liners. Last is pencil, which is the type of eyeliner I use the least. My all time favorite is the Milani Liquid Eye because it’s an eyeliner pencil that is liquid like. It’s very easy to apply and most importantly for me, easy to smudge. You’ll see what I mean by this later on.

“No Makeup” Makeup: Powder Foundation Routine

Hi Loves!!! Today I will show you my “No Makeup” makeup routine. This is my go to look when I’m in a rush. I don’t use foundation, only powder so it’s a pretty quick routine. Let’s get started! FYI: I am traveling for work so I did this look in my hotel room so I apologize for the bad lighting.

Just a quick note, I usually do not prime my face when I’m only using powder. I like how the powder gets “dewy” as the day goes on. By all means use a primer if you see fit! As always I did my brows first. Since I’m traveling I tried to keep the makeup I brought with me to a minimum (It was SO hard!) so I filled my brows in with pencil only and then cleaned them up with concealer. The next step is to conceal any dark spots. I placed the concealer with a Real Techniques brow brush and then blend it out with a damp Beauty Blender. As you can see the Beauty Blender blends out concealer flawlessly. It truly is worth the investment.

Skin Care: Best Foundation is Healthy Skin!

Hi Loves!! There was a request on my IG (Hey Kay!) to talk about skin care. Now I was a little hesitant to do this topic because I have really struggled with my skin in the past. The reason I even started to wear makeup was because I wanted to hide how bad my skin was. However, as I got more into it I realized good skin was the key to beautiful makeup. So now I wear makeup because I WANT too, not because I HAVE too. The picture above is my bare face, and believe it or not that’s how I am 85% of the time! So first things first a little history…

IMG951147The picture on the left is from 2012 my senior year of college. My skin was in pretty bad shape. #1 reason STRESS!! Engineering at Northwestern…yea enough said. Also lack of sleep, poor eating habits, and lets be honest.. it was college so I’m sure the alcohol to water ratio didn’t help! I was also very inconsistent with my skin care routine always looking for a quick fix and switching up products all the time. Once I graduated I vowed that I would get my skin together. I no longer wanted to rely on makeup. The picture on the right is from 2015. Lets get into the products that helped me get here.

Nude Lippies

Every girl needs a good nude lipstick! They are perfect to wear for your “everyday” look and when you have a bold eye and need a nice toned down lip! However…being a WOC,  wearing a nude lip can be tricky. If not done correctly your lips can come off looking ashy (Tyrone Biggums anyone?) or the nude washes you out and makes you look sick. So I will show you some of my favorite nudes.

High End

MAC’s Creme In Your Coffee: I picked this color up because Kendra of GlamTwinz334(Youtube) raved about it.  MAC describes this color as a creamy mid-tone pink brown.  I usually wear this to work because I don’t have to line it, and I just throw it on. It is a cremesheen so its very moisturizing and creamy (go figure).

MAC’s Velvet Teddy: MAC describes this color as a deep-tone beige. This color is matte, although I always top it with a gloss. To make it work for me I wear it with MAC’s Cork lip liner and top with NYX Mega Shine Lip Gloss in Natural.
