How I Clean my Brushes

Hi Loves! Long time no post. I haven’t been wearing too much makeup and I haven’t gotten many new products but hopefully that will all change in the next couple of weeks. Today we are going to talk about how I clean my brushes. It is SO important to clean your brushes regularly. You want to make sure you get rid of bacteria that builds up in your brushes. If you noticed that your skin is breaking out when you wear makeup, the first thing you should consider is if you have cleaned your brushes recently. So I will give you the run down on my brush cleaning routine.

My Highlight & Contour Routine

process

Hi Loves! Today we are going to talk highlighting and contouring! I want you to keep in mind that I named this post MY highlight and contour routine because we all have different face shapes, so your highlighting/contouring will be different from mine. However I will give some tips and tricks for different face shapes! Before we jump right in lets go over a little background.

You want to highlight and contour AFTER you’ve applied your foundation. Sometimes people confuse color correcting under the eye with highlighting. You typically color correct BEFORE you apply your foundation. For my WOC, peach color concealers will be the best thing to use for color correcting hyper-pigmentation (dark spots). If your darker than me you want to go for a darker peach/orange corrector. If your lighter then me you want to go for a lighter peach concealer. For my fair women you want to use green to color correct red blemishes on your skin. This is not a post on color correcting so lets move on lol

The picture on the left is my bare face. As you can see the light naturally hits my T-Zone area: my forehead, bridge of nose, high points of cheeks and chin. You can also see that the perimeter of my face  is darker and there is a slight shadow under my cheek bones. The picture on the right is after I applied foundation (and brows) and I lose all those features, my face is now all one color and seems one dimensional. We want to highlight/contour to bring dimension back to our face, and enhance some features that we may not have!

All About Eyeliner!!

DSCN0846

Hi Loves! Today we are going to talk about eyeliner!! This was a very hard topic to cover without doing a video so I hope the pictorials do this topic justice. I will cover gel, liquid, and pencil liner, my favorite eyeliners and also the technique I use to apply. PSA: excuse my brows in these pictures lol I did not fill them in so they are looking a little ratchet. My apologies in advance.

The liner I reach for the most is the Maybelline New York Eyestudio gel liner in Blackest Black. I LOVE this liner because its super black and the finish is matte! For this to be a drug store product, the quality is amazing! Another gel liner that I hear a lot of good things about is Inglot’s gel liner in #77. This is slightly more than the Maybelline but I hear it’s great. To apply the gel liner I switch between this BH Cosmetics eyeliner brush I got in a set and the Real Techniques eyeliner brush. They both work really well and I feel I have a lot of control when applying liner with them. For liquid liner I like the WetnWild H2O Proof liquid eyeliner. This liner will not go anywhere once you apply it! I also like that the brush on the applicator is short, which makes it easier to control. As far as liquid liner, the drug store has some of the best! NYC, e.l.f., Milani…all these brands have great, inexpensive liquid liners. Last is pencil, which is the type of eyeliner I use the least. My all time favorite is the Milani Liquid Eye because it’s an eyeliner pencil that is liquid like. It’s very easy to apply and most importantly for me, easy to smudge. You’ll see what I mean by this later on.

“No Makeup” Makeup: Powder Foundation Routine

IMG_1293

Hi Loves!!! Today I will show you my “No Makeup” makeup routine. This is my go to look when I’m in a rush. I don’t use foundation, only powder so it’s a pretty quick routine. Let’s get started! FYI: I am traveling for work so I did this look in my hotel room so I apologize for the bad lighting.

Just a quick note, I usually do not prime my face when I’m only using powder. I like how the powder gets “dewy” as the day goes on. By all means use a primer if you see fit! As always I did my brows first. Since I’m traveling I tried to keep the makeup I brought with me to a minimum (It was SO hard!) so I filled my brows in with pencil only and then cleaned them up with concealer. The next step is to conceal any dark spots. I placed the concealer with a Real Techniques brow brush and then blend it out with a damp Beauty Blender. As you can see the Beauty Blender blends out concealer flawlessly. It truly is worth the investment.
